One thing I’ve noticed about how I differ from most of the satanic/atheist community is that the most vocal among us tend to be very left leaning. In and of itself, there is nothing wrong with this, but when viewed on a large scale it seems somewhat contradictory to the satanic ideal of freedom, specifically freedom of thought.

These days it seems that both the left and the right have both fallen into a herd mentality, and this dogmatic political approach is beginning to creep into satanic culture as well, despite being one of the things that we proudly profess to avoid.

I would encourage each and every one of you to take a good look at your political ideals and ask yourself if they are really yours. If they are, that’s fine. But if not, or if you’re not sure, it’s time to take a step back, get a wider perspective, and reevaluate things.

Anton LaVey famously said “We’re looking for a few like minded individuals.”

The most important word in that sentence is “individuals.” We should be like minded not in our ideals, but in how we arrive at holding those ideals, through original thought, questioning the world around us, hearing all sides of a story, and careful consideration.

If we can’t do that, then we are no better than the religious organizations that many of us so despise.
